  • General Altimax RT43

The General Altimax RT43 tire is an all-season tire from General that combines a quiet, comfortable ride with year-round, all-season traction, even in light snow, to owners of coupes, sedans, CUVs, SUVs, and minivans.

An added advantage is that it is backed up by an up to 75,000 mile warranty, meaning that you can drive with ease of mind when you’re on a General Altimax RT43 tire. But is the General Altimax RT43 the right tire for you?

    Features and Benefits

In areas that experience moderate temperatures year-round, finding a set of tires that perform well in dry, wet, and light winter weather conditions becomes a must as changing conditions can make it difficult for your tires to grip the road. Fortunately, all-season tires are an excellent choice if you want a do-it-all tire for your vehicle. Additionally, all-season tires typically offer better rolling resistance for enhanced fuel economy.

Let’s take a look at the General Altimax RT43 tire review to help us understand all its features and benefits at a glance:

    • All-Season Performance: The Altimax RT43 comes with a Twin Cushion Silica Tread All-Season Compound placed at a high density molded into a symmetric tread design featuring a continuous center rib that enhances its performance in wet as well as light snow conditions.
    • Reduced Hydroplaning: Circumferential grooves and General's Anti-Slip Sipe Design Technology, with an increased number of biting edges, enhances traction on slippery roads, preventing hydroplaning.
    • Minimal Noise: Independent tread blocks use sound wave suppression technology to reduce road noise for a quiet ride.
    • Solid Vehicle Handling: Twin steel belts are reinforced by two layers of spirally wrapped polyamide that stabilize the tread area for good handling, while a polyester cord body enhances ride quality.
    • Longer Tread Life: Low Surface Abrasion Technology construction reduces tread distortion to promote even treadwear and extend tread life.

Ideal for drivers with long commutes, the General Altimax RT43 offers reliable performance and very high endurance. This tire size ranges from 14 to 19 inches and offers an up to 75,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for T-rated sizes, a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for H- and V-rated sizes, plus a 45-Day Customer Satisfaction Trial.

    Pros and Cons

Before deciding to buy General Altimax RT43, let’s first drill down a few factors that can help you decide whether or not the tire is right for you.

    • Twin Cushion Silica Tread Compound for year-round performance
    • Low-density foundation compound absorbs road vibrations to promote a comfortable ride
    • Symmetric tread pattern delivers strong year-round performance
    • Low Surface Abrasion Technology improves vehicle handling and allows for quick steering response
    • Sound wave suppression technology reduces road noise for a quiet ride
    • Anti-Slip Sipe Design Technology reduces hydroplaning risk

While General makes a good claim about General Altimax RT43’s performance, some shortcomings may divide opinions.

    • Not ideal for use in moderate to severe winter weather conditions
    • Only available for passenger vehicles

SimpleTire’s view on General Altimax RT43 tires

    General Altimax RT43

Designed to deliver impressive consumer value while ensuring even treadwear and long tread life, the Altimax RT43 combines a quiet, comfortable ride with year-round traction, even in light snow, along with Sound wave suppression technology that makes sure to deliver a quiet ride.

With Anti-Slip Sipe Design Technology and independent tread block helps evacuate water and slush quickly to improve wet and light snow traction, this tire also creates comfort so that drivers receive consistent performance on dry, wet, and snowy roads. A built-in Replacement Tire Monitor that wears down to show "replace tire" aids in telling drivers when it's time for new tires.

This tire performs slightly better than Cooper CS5 Grand Touring, Kumho Solus TA31, and Firestone All Season while also offering a longer warranty at a more affordable price.

Vehicles the General Altimax RT43 is a good replacement tire for

Commonly used on passenger vehicles such as coupes, sedans, SUVs, CUVs, and minivans, the General Altimax RT43 can be a common replacement tire for vehicles such as Honda Civic, Chevrolet Bolt, Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro, Volkswagen Taos and more.

These tires on my old Honda worked excellent especially in the wet weather, I'm usually worried in my little car, these tires were seriously excellent, worth the price and a great price point.

It's too bad they have been discontinued. Thank Good for Simple Tire, as I needed one after an unexpected flat. Otherwise, with all wheel vehicle, I'd have had to purchase four new ones.

This is my second set of the RT43 on a 2nd vehicle for a 2nd vehicle. Both sets are showing good wear resistance & I bought them as they're highly rated by Consumer Reports. Positives: Great handling on dry roads. Good handling on wet roads & we have a lot of rain in Florida for 5 months of the year. Exceptional wear & durability because they have two steel belts - very good for our heavier vehicle a 2014 Honda Odessey (size 205/60R 16 in diameter) & also on a lighter small SUV from Nissan (size 195 /60R 15) similar to the Nissan Rogue LIMITED TREADWEAR WARRANTY that's pro-rated up to 75,000 Miles from General Tire - means you get a refund if they don't last but you have to prove you serviced & rotated the tires. Made in the USA employing Americans! Negatives: Because of the 2nd steel belt they are not the quietest of All Seasons but I prefer the trade off for their long life. Just turn up the radio if it bothers you! They are T rated up to 118 mph but have an A rating for traction & A or B for temperature rating. Not recommended for sports cars or speed freaks.

This is the second set of these tires I have had on my Honda CRV. Bought these tires based on strong reviews on Tire Rack by professional drivers. Excellent wet road performance and very good overall performance. My experience in light snow has been ok but not great. Got about 40,000 miles out of last set. I only drive this vehicle about 10-12,000 miles annually so the tires get hard and perform poorly on wet roads before the tread actually wears out. I am happy with these tires. Watch out for the hidden $20 handling fee added on by simple tire at checkout.
