  • The Continental ExtremeContact Sport is a popular name in the world of ultra-high-performance summer tires, and was originally launched in 2017 as a replacement for ExtremeContact DW. The ExtremeContact Sport offers a satisfying balance of responsive and predictable handling and excellent dry and wet traction, allowing drivers to feel confident while cornering. But is the ExtremeContact Sport the right tire for you?

    Features and Benefits

You can expect every tire review on the Continental ExtremeContact Sport to talk about the excellent dry traction. It provides precise steering that makes it feel aware and responsive. Additionally, Continental’s Total Confidence Plan provides a 72-month materials and workmanship warranty. Under this warranty, the manufacturer promises to replace the tire if it turns unserviceable due to workmanship or material defects. Here is a look at some of the outstanding features of this tire:

    • Enhanced steering: Larger outside tread blocks, along with a continuous center rib and the company's exclusive SportPlus technology lead to enhanced steering responsiveness, enabling drivers to react within split seconds.
    • Maximum traction, grip, and stability: With its exclusive + Silane technology, Continental has equipped this tire with a sophisticated summer tread compound which has helped create an asymmetric tread pattern. Such a tread pattern is ideal for maximizing traction, grip, and handling on wet and dry surfaces. Stability and cornering grip also receive a boost through this tread compound.
    • Improved durability: UHP tires are designed for spirited driving, as their name implies. They must therefore be strong enough to survive cornering and driving at high speeds. Keeping this in mind, Continental uses two steel belts strengthened with a spirally coiled polyamide cover here. Additionally, it has two-ply sidewalls which contribute to the tire's strength, longevity, and performance across the whole speed range.
    • Better wet performance: The ExtremeContact Sport receives three sizable circumferential grooves that work in tandem with the +Silane compound to deliver superior grip in slick conditions. While at high speeds, these grooves help drain water away from beneath the tire, thereby reducing the risk of hydroplaning. You can be assured of its grip even on slick and rainy roads.
    • Visually check your wear: This tire incorporates Continental's DW QuickView Performance Indicators that are comparable to those present in the majority of DW models. You can monitor tire tread wear with the aid of these indicators. From there, it will be simple to establish whether the tread depth is sufficient to handle various road conditions. Dry and wet are indicated by the DW marks and when the marks degrade, they show diminishing traction levels, indicating the right time for replacements and preventing future hazards.

    Pros and Cons

The ExtremeContact Sport has plenty of great technology to improve its performance, but is it the right tire for you and your ride? Let’s take a further look.

    Pros

    • Superb dry and wet traction and handling
    • Excellent braking and cornering
    • Improved ride comfort, as the tire is engineered to soak up road noises and vibrations
    • Backed by a 30,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
    • Covered under Continental’s Total Confidence Plan, which includes Road Hazard, Limited Warranty, Customer Satisfaction Trial, Flat Tire Roadside Assistance, and Mileage Warranty (restrictions and limitations apply)

    Cons

    • While ride comfort is improved, the tire is not as quiet as an all-season or touring tire
    • Not approved for use in winter weather
    • Not available in truck sizes

I use these on my 68 camaro for road racing events. I have 3 track days on the rears and going for 1 more. The fronts I had to replace to to another situation unrelated to the tires. But great ride on the road, great dry and wet traction. I would recommend.

First pair of summer tires, so I don't have much to compare them to, but they have been phenomenal. I spent a couple weeks online comparing them to other manufacturers (Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, Goodyear, and other types of Continental). Definitely do your research before buying any sort of tire. Ultimately, these specifically were chosen because of their ability to get close to competitors performance without getting close to their price. I've driven in cooler weather with these and they did alright but I would advise more caution when below 50°f. It's not like they were dangerous by any means, it's just that my traction control kicked in more around this temp. When these tires get warm or you drive in consistent warm weather they are a blast. Super nice handling and braking in dry. I never felt like I was going to loose grip at any point during higher speed corners, but that could also be because I didn't push them to their limit. I tend not to abuse my tires more than needed lol. Wet handling was above average. I never had an issue with hydroplaning at all during Colorado's mysterious summer-long monsoon season this year... They performed as expected and were able to keep good corner grip and hard braking in the wet. Tread wear has been average I would say. I haven't noticed an absurd amount of wear, nor has it not shown wear at all. I think for spirited driving it is going to last a decent amount of time. And since their price is significantly lower than most of its competitors, I say the wear time is really good. Overall, this tire has exceeded my expectations. If you're in the market for a relatively affordable summer tire, this is the one. I will definitely be buying these again when necessary, and if you're also looking to get your first set of dedicated summer tires and branch out from all-seasons, give these a try. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

One of the few sizes available for my 2001 Viper. It doesn't get driven in rain/snow so I don't have a clue how they handle in that, but they seem fine on dry pavement. I do not track the car, so I'm sure I don't push them to any kind of limit.

I haven't been able to drive on them yet but they balanced and sealed well on my 19x11 SVE MHP1 wheels. My first stop for budget tires for the last couple years has been simpletire.com.

Thanks to SimpleTire I was able to outfit my 2013 Dodge Challenger with the tires it needed to tear up the roads with absolutely no traction loss. Absolutely fantastic summer tires and I have not ran into any problems. Would highly recommend and the shipping was insanely fast too. Have not tried them in the winter and probably never will. Stick to warm weather with these.
